Indications

This surgery is indicated for protruding ears or ears with insufficient folds/plicatures???, giving a flat appearance and making the ear look too far to the front.
Since ear deformations may be seen in infants, the first question parents ask is how the child needs to be for surgery.
These operations may be carried out at the age of seven or eight because that is when the ears have completed their growth.
In addition to these common cases, it is also possible to correct the shape of the ears (too big or pointed) or to treat the lobe (too big or too close to the cheek).

Surgery

In adults or children over the age of 12, local anaesthetic is well tolerated and hospitalisation lasts only two hours. In younger children, light semi-general anaesthesia is to be preferred, as it is more comfortable. This is an outpatient procedure that takes only one day.
The scar is completely hidden behind the ear. The cartilage is more or less weakened and shaped as required for an ear close to the skull and above all with a natural look. A "modelling" dressing is applied after the operation.

After surgery

The dressing is removed three or four days after the operation.
Antibiotics and light painkillers are systematically prescribed for seven days.

The stitches are resorbed naturally but a consultation is needed after eight to ten days.
The ears are slightly bruised and swollen for one to two weeks depending on the case. For one month they must be kept in position by an elastic bandage while the patient sleeps. There is very little pain, treated with light painkillers, but the ears lose their feeling for a few weeks.

The definitive result can be seen after three or four months.

Conclusion

This is a simple operation for both adults and children.
